Celebrity Collaboration: Miranda Kerr + Mother Denim
Kerr launches her perfect supermodel jeans with California-cool Mother Denim.
Model and street style star Miranda Kerr has teamed up with Los Angeles-based cult denim label Mother for a denim collaboration. Kerr is known her love of Mother: “She was one of the first big models and celebrities to wear our stuff,” Tim Kaeding, cofounder and creator of Mother told WWD.

And that was just the beginning. Mother asked the Australian beauty to try her hand at denim design for its new celebrity collaboration and Kerr’s first-ever jeans collaboration, Miranda + Mother: a 12-piece capsule collection. The model found irresistible the challenge of designing the perfect jeans. “It was incredible just to be able to work with different types of denim. Different washes, different elasticity, and shapes,” says Kerr. “You’ll see within the 12 pieces that I quite like a little bit of the washed out, worn in look.
Kerr is known for her ability to make simple, elegant pieces pop, so it was about time for the supermodel to let her love for jeans inspire a denim line. “Denim has become part of my daily wardrobe. It’s such a staple,'” the 33-year-old explained to Vogue. “For some reason, I’m wearing it more than ever before.”

She went into the process knowing exactly what she wanted. “Miranda was a dream to work with,” said Mother cofounder Lela Becker. “She came with mood boards and colour palettes. She had proportions and fits in mind as well.” That’s how both she and the founders of Mother sum up her vision in creating the 12-piece collection. With pieces ranging from the perfect everyday jean to ’70s inspired details and an A-line button-front skirt, a jumpsuit and T-shirts, four pairs of jeans, including a distressed light-wash pair, and a pair of frayed shorts, her taste for timelessness shines through the collection.

Kerr said she loves trends that throw back to the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s but low-rise denim makes her cringe. “I was kind of looking to Jane Birkin when designing the collection, but I feel there’s also a little bit of like Cindy Crawford in the 90s as well. You’ll see some pieces are little 90s and then others are a little 70s. There’s a classic jean which is like Audrey [Hepburn]–inspired as well.”
About Mother Denim:
When It Comes to Jeans, Mother Knows Best. Designer Tim Kaeding, along with business partner Lela Tillem, is behind the denim brand Mother. He spent years developing materials that look like denim but feel like cashmere with the aim of spearheading a denim revival. “It takes a lot to get a girl out of leggings and back into jeans!” he laughs. “For jeans to make a comeback, technology has to step in,” he continues. “We weave in fibers more typically used in knits, then treat them with fabric finishes—but those are secret!” However, it’s not just texture that Kaeding prides Mother on: “We’re constantly devising new fits.”
