Chanel has unveiled Vanessa Paradis and actor Johnny Depp’s daughter as the face of its new perfume, No.5 L’Eau. The 16 year old seems to love her new role as she shared the news early on Monday morning by posting a shot of herself kissing a giant version of the Chanel classic on Instagram: “I’m so excited to announce that I am the face of the new Chanel No. 5 L’EAU!”
In a statement, Chanel said that Lily-Rose “embodies her generation and its values of freedom and boldness to perfection, bringing to the iconic fragrance of the House her youthful freshness and beauty.” Created by in-house perfumer Olivier Polge, the new No.5 L’Eau is a new iteration of the classic scent, centred around the same May rose notes as the original No.5.
The fragrance will be released in autumn of this year, along with a film campaign directed by Johan Renck, who has created ads for Givenchy, Calvin Klein and Valentino, and is also the man behind David Bowie’s Blackstar and Lazarus music videos.
Lily-Rose is taking after her mother, Chanel muse Vanessa Paradis, who was a model for a Chanel perfume ad in 1991 and also the face of the brand’s Rouge Coco lipstick in 2010. But this isn’t Depp’s Chanel debut: the rising star is established as an ambassador for the Maison as she was also chosen as the face of Chanel’s Pearl Eyewear Collection in 2015. She also starred in Chanel’s Casino-Themed AW16 Haute Couture Show, playing roulette alongside Julianne Moore and Kristen Stewart. And she definitely slay it in the Fashion House’s Haute Couture designs at the Met Ball and Cannes Film Festival red carpet.
